Fort
Werk aan de Daatselaar
The first part of the Slaperdijk was constructed in 1652. Twelve years later (1664) the dike of the Grand Canal at Renswoude was extended to the higher situated area to the northeast of that place. When the Grebbelinie was built in 1745, the Slaperdijk remained an undesirable access to the line and the Emminkhuizerberg. Du Moulin had reinforcements added to the line in 1785 and 1786; this resulted in the construction of a lunette and a redoubt at the head of the Slaperdijk. These were excavated again in 1799, when the Werk bij Daatselaar (Fort Daatselaar) was constructed and the Groeperkade was connected to the Slaperdijk.
