Description
In the border region near Achtmaal you cycle through some beautiful nature reserves and the agricultural landscape. You will find plenty of peace here, ideal for a day of carefree cycling.
Old Buisse Heide
At De Toekomst you can enjoy a delicious lunch, after which you cycle through Achtmaal. You will pass the Sint-Cornelius church from 1863. Soon you will enter the Oude Buisse Heide: an estate where you will find a mix of forest and small-scale agricultural land. The poet Henriette Roland Holst liked to be inspired by this beautiful landscape. The Strontpaal Essen is a stone where customs officers used to'hid\\\' behind to do their big message.
The Mates
You drive quite a bit through Belgium. Here too you can fully enjoy the peace and natural beauty, occasionally you pass a typical Flemish farm. De Maatjes is a unique cross-border nature reserve with reed beds, marshes and wet meadows. What immediately stands out here: the silence! From the seven-metre-high watchtower De Klot you can enjoy a beautiful view of this area. Just before Achtmaal you cross an authentic Turfvaart.
