In the border region near Achtmaal you cycle through some beautiful nature reserves and agricultural landscape. You will find plenty of peace and quiet here, ideal for a day of carefree cycling.
Oude Buisse Heide You pass, among other things, the Sint-Cornelius Church from 1863. You soon enter the Oude Buisse Heide: an estate where you will find a mix of forest and small-scale agricultural land. The poet Henriette Roland Holst liked to be inspired by this beautiful landscape. The Shitpole Essen is a stone where customs officers used to hid behind to do their big message.
De Maatjes You drive quite a bit through Belgium. Here too you can fully enjoy the peace and natural beauty, occasionally you pass a typical Flemish farm. De Maatjes is a unique cross-border nature reserve with reed fields, swamp forests and wet meadows. What immediately stands out here: the silence! You can enjoy a beautiful view of this area from the seven-meter-high De Klot lookout tower. Just before Achtmaal you cross an authentic Turfvaart.
