Cycling through the Vijfheerenlanden and the Alblasserwaard

The Vijfheerenlanden and Alblasserwaard are two adjacent cycling pearls along the Lek and Merwede. You will find wide polders, peace and beautiful monumental buildings.

Mills
From the edge of Leerdam you drive into the polder. Get some fresh air, while enjoying the views. Further on you come through Noordeloos and Goudriaan, two picturesque villages where you see characteristic farms and old churches. Just before Groot-Ammers you drive along the Molenkade past four polder mills. The quartet forms a beautiful Dutch picture.

Hei- and Boeicop
On the other side of the Lek you pass the Veerpoort van Schoonhoven from 1602. The ferry gate is part of the water barrier; at high tide the wooden doors are closed. You cycle over the dike along the Lek, you have a beautiful view over the glistening water. Then you cycle along the vast meadows of the Vijfherenlanden. How nice and quiet it is here! Finally you come through Hei- en Boeicop, a beautiful authentic hamlet.
