Buiten de Veerpoort

This ferry gate from 1602 is the only remaining gate of the city: originally Schoonhoven had four gates. The ferry gate is part of the flood defense; at high tide the gate is closed with wooden doors. A memorial in the gate indicates the height of the water during the flood disaster of 1953.
