Far away from the busy roads and districts, the wildly romantic Eifgenbachtal with its 14.2 km long hike invites you to discover a lot. From old mills and former spas in a sleeping beauty sleep to the old castle, the sights vary along the route, which runs through a largely primeval nature.
The Eifgen factory in Wermelskirchen is the starting point for this route. At the end of the 19th century, the leisure park was the pride of the dynamic city. The'Berger Mühle\\\' (mill), about 1.5 kilometers downstream, is considered one of the oldest half-timbered houses in the Bergisches Land. From the'Neuemühle\\\', sagas, fairy tales and the memory of a disastrous fire catastrophe accompany hikers on their way to the'Rausmühle\\\' and'Markusmühle\\\'.
An impressive witness to the former use of the Eifgenbach is the remains of the'Frohntaler Hammer\\\', whose water wheel originally powered a wool spinning mill with'cloth factory\\\'. In addition to a glimpse into the animal and plant world of the Eifgenbachtal, you will learn more about the successes of nature conservation, for example in turning the former Burscheider drinking water dam back into nature. Finally, shortly before the finish, the remains of the Eifgen castle offer the opportunity to go on an impressive journey through time through the early Middle Ages.
From March to November, the Bergische hiking bus runs along the Eifgenbachweg on weekends and public holidays. You can use it for the return journey.
