Description

Wind farm Tolhuislanden
Wind farm Tolhuislanden is a wind farm located between the Zwolle-Meppel railway line and the A28 near the hamlet of De Lichtmis.
Next to each windmill, a position for a tower crane has been created for maintenance and construction.

Water tower Candlemas
Water tower De Lichtmis is a former water tower located on the Lichtmisweg in De Lichtmis. The designer was architect Hendrik Sangster. The water tower was built in 1932 and had a water reservoir of 400 m³.
The original function of the tower ceased to exist at the end of the 1980s. The water tower can be seen from far away areas such as Zwolle, Nieuwleusen, Hasselt and Staphorst and dominates the agricultural landscape of the Candlemas. From 1990, the tower was converted into the restaurant and hotel De Koperen Hoogte on behalf of entrepreneur Hennie van der Most.

Rouveen
Rouveen is a church village in the Dutch municipality of Staphorst. Together with the village of Staphorst, Rouveen is a typical example of ribbon development along the Oude Rijksweg, which has a total length of approximately 8 kilometers and ends on the south side at De Lichtmis.

The reformed church is located in the center on Kerkplein. There are also several other churches also of Protestant denomination.

The number of women wearing traditional costumes is considerably lower compared to Staphorst. There is still Sunday peace in the village, which is reflected in a quiet street scene on Sundays.

The Milk Can Monument is located on Kerkplein, a tribute to the last milk can, which was discarded in 1998 due to the use of milk tanks and automation.

Camp Conrad
Camp Conrad near Rouveen at the Conrad Canal was a work camp that was initially intended to put unemployed men to work in land consolidation.

In 1929, two barracks were built on the west side of the Conrad Canal as part of job creation. After the camp came under the National Employment Agency in 1939, the barracks were moved to the east side of the canal in 1940. From 1929 to April 1942, unemployed people who were employed in the land consolidation found shelter in this camp.

From April 25, 1942, the German occupiers used the camp as a temporary buffer for Westerbork and the unemployed had to make way for Jewish men. Jews, mainly from Amsterdam, but also from Staphorst and Meppel, were forced to work and thus simultaneously isolated from their families. A total of 340 Jewish men lived in camp De Conrad. They had to build a road near Staphorst, the Afschuttingsweg and an adjacent ditch. This road is now called the Jews' Road in the area and the ditch the Jews' Sloot. On October 3, 1942 (Yom Kippur) the men were deported to Westerbork. From there they were sent to Eastern European death camps. Only four of them survived the war.

After the war, the camp was used as an internment camp for NSB members. An agricultural school was subsequently established there. Finally, in the years 1952 - 1960, 180 Moluccan KNIL soldiers evacuated from Indonesia on military orders lived there with their families. One of the barracks was also used as a church for a long time. The last barracks at Conrad camp were demolished in 2007.

Peat area Staphorsterveld
Water-rich nature on the banks and behind the dike of the Zwarte Water. The history of this part of Overijssel between Hasselt and Zwartsluis can be read in the sleek, straight lines of the old De Olde Maten extraction area.
Monastics already extracted peat from the ground here in the Middle Ages. But a lot of peat was extracted, especially in the first half of the 19th century. The result is a landscape: long, narrow strips of land alternating with strips of forest. These forest strips are overgrown ditches, which were previously used to remove the peat with barges (flat barges).

Also interesting in the Staphorsterveld are the Stadsgaten of Hasselt. You can walk around this peat extraction area via semi-paved paths. Rare quaking bogs and silver moons still occur. The Veenslootlanden was once a duck decoy, now only a ruin. The original function is still clearly recognizable thanks to the tall trees of the Koocher forest in the otherwise empty land. There are sandy paths around the old cage where you can experience the Staphorsterveld and its history.

Milligerplas
The Milligerplas is a lake adjacent to the Stadshagen district in Zwolle. The lake was created after sand extraction in the 1960s for the widening and raising of the A28 and was later enlarged. The south side of the Milligerplas is intended for recreation, the north side is a nature reserve. This nature reserve is cordoned off by a fence.
