The Erft cycle path counts about 110 kilometers from the source at Nettersheim-Holzmülheim to the mouth of the Rhine at Neuss. It goes downhill continuously. Truly a bike ride for connoisseurs and the curious, because there is much to discover along the Erft cycle path. Right at the start, a visit to the Nature Center Eifel in the Nature Village of Nettersheim is worthwhile. Whether in the "House of Fossils" or outside on the educational nature trail - no question about the history, nature and culture of the Eifel region remains unanswered here.
Castles, castles and museums along the entire cycle path invite you to stop over again and again. Then you will soon run out of time. Those who have divided the cycling tour into different daily stages can optimally combine cycling and culture!
This is also the case in Bad Münstereifel, where you can visit the pharmacy museum with 'fragrance street' in the historic pedestrian zone. And we continue through the last 'offshoots' of the North Eifel Nature Park. Wooden bridges lead over the seemingly untouched banks of the Erft. The branches partly extend into the river and the bank is overgrown with dense bushes. The next destination is Euskirchen, where, in addition to a piggy bank monument, various sculptures, statues and the remaining historic city walls can be discovered. The thermal and swimming paradise of Euskirchen is also worth a visit.
Children and adults alike will be amazed when they see how cloths are made from loose wool and how the old steam engine and imposing looms are put into motion for visitors at the LVR-Industriemuseum/Tuchfabrik Müller Euskirchen in the Kuchenheim district. Due to the low gradients, the Erft cycle path is very suitable for cycling trips with the whole family. At the latest at Erftstadt, the children will take over command anyway, because here the branch to Brühl, about 15 kilometers away, is signposted with its 'Phantasialand'. Also worth seeing are the castles of Augustusburg and Falkenlust, which have been declared World Heritage by Unesco. If you don't let yourself be taken off the (straight cycle) path, you will reach Neuss via Bergheim and Grevenbroich, where the Erft flows into the Rhine.
- We recommend taking the train to Blankenheim. Between the source of the Erft in Nettersheim-Holzmühlheim and Blankenheim there is only a small rise.
- Since there are many stations along the Cologne-Trier and Bonn-Bad Münstereifel routes, you can plan your own routes and stages yourself.
Accessible via the stations of Blankenheim-Wald, Nettersheim and Bad Münstereifel.
