Description
Horticulture and flowers
The starting point of this cycle tour is just outside Wateringen. From here you set course for the coast via Naaldwijk and 's-Gravenzande. Along the way you can stop at the Westlands Museum. There you will learn more about the development of horticulture in this area. A little further on you will find the Pluktuin, which you can enjoy walking through. Are you hungry after all that activity? Then sit down at Eetcafé De Witte's-Gravenzande for a snack and a drink. Then you cycle further to the beautiful Banken dune area.
Along the coast
From the long cycle path on the dune that you ride over, you can enjoy a beautiful view of the sea and the greenhouses in the surrounding area. You will also pass the Sand Motor, an artificial peninsula.
The Sand Motor
The Sand Motor peninsula was constructed to strengthen the Dutch coast. You will find the island near the Solleveld nature reserve. You will find all kinds of coastal and wading birds here and occasionally seals can even be seen here. The Westland part of the coast is part of the Hollandse Duinen National Park.
