Description

This walk is run every autumn and guided by the IVN Haaksbergen. The photos include a selection of the 55 species we discovered in 2017.
See you in the autumn holidays.
  1. The walk starts at the Molenbelt parking lot, on the Bommelaspad in Haaksbergen. This is where Jan Bernard van Heek placed the Wissink Möl for his intended open-air museum. When this fell through, his wife donated the entire area to Natuurmonumenten after his death. He had been a member of the board. He and Edwina lived on the Zonnebeek estate. Nearby.
  2. At node z26 we turn left. Immediately you walk into a part with many trees, but also juniper bushes. In autumn there are many types of mushrooms here.
  3. A little further on we meet friends. These are of great importance to many animals. Of course for amphibians such as toad and frog, but also for many types of mammals, such as mouse, hedgehog, fox, and mustelids, such as the badger. In dry periods you will find the traces of the ash in the mud.
  4. When the path ends at the turnstile, continue a little further on the Bommelaspad, the dirt road to the right at junction z27. You walk past a meadow on the left and a higher embankment on the right. On the other side of the meadow is the Hagmolenbeek. Farmers used to fertilize the meadows by flooding the meadow during the wet season by the dammed stream. This stream contained a lot of fertilizers. The embankment on the right is a real sand ridge, created in or after the Ice Age. You can see the fens from the other side over the wall.
  5. The path continues. Watch out for mountain bikers. They also use this path. They will have their own path further on. For mushrooms you have to scout both places. On the mountain bike trail on fallen trees for tinder fungi. They sometimes stand in two directions, horizontally and vertically against the trunk. They arise when the dead tree is still standing, but also after the fall.
  6. Tinder mushrooms used to be dried and ground or pulverized. The powder catches fire very quickly. And was used in stone chip guns.
  7. Turn right at the end of the path. Node z28. If you follow the cycle path on the left side of the main path, you look over the central heath and drift sand area. Many mushrooms along this path, including tufted mushrooms (photo 13) and hare's ears.
  8. Following this path you will automatically reach the parking lot. When. If you take the first path on the left, you will arrive at the Wakel, the meeting center of Natuurmonumenten. A pleasant place for a drink with something on the side.
