Cycling through Dessel and surroundings

Dessel is a charming town in the Antwerp Kempen. You will find plenty of cultural history, Flemish geniality and nice terraces. In the countryside it is wonderfully quiet cycling through the farmlands and hamlets.

Sas4 Tower
The route starts in the middle of Dessel. In the old city center you can see some beautiful monuments, such as the old town hall that dates from 1934. The Sint-Niklaas church can also be seen, just like the presbytery from 1778. A little further on you drive into the countryside. At a unique intersection of three canals you will pass the Sas4 tower. From the 37 meter high top you have a magnificent view of the area!

The Gore
You drive along the Dessel-Turnhout-Schoten Canal. This canal was dug out with a shovel in the mid-nineteenth century in fifteen years. As a result, the arid Kempen soil around the canal became somewhat moister, and you can now see many plant and tree species there. Further on is Het Goor, a nature reserve with ponds, reed belts and swamp forests. Just before Werbeek you cross the Desselse Nete. Get off here to enjoy this idyllic spot.
