A colorful environment, because this region is the largest contiguous bulb area in the world. Further on you cycle to Wieringen, this former island was only linked to North Holland in 1924. In Den Oever you drive past De Hoop, a thatched corn mill from 1675. In the harbor the Afsluitdijk comes ashore and the former lighthouse from 1884 stands.
Hippolytus hoof
You will also see characteristic Wieringse farms and authentic high garden walls that served as a boundary fence. In the beautiful old heart of Hippolytushoef you will see the old Hippolytus Church. It is partly built of tuff. De Onderneming is a beautiful flour mill from 1851. In Westerland you pass, among other things, the Nicholas Church, whose tower dates from the fifteenth century. Further on you can enjoy a beautiful view of the rippling Amstelmeer. What a beautiful region!
