Wieringen and Amstelmeer Bicycle Route

Sweeping views, tranquility, and a unique cultural history. You will experience it all on this varied route. You begin your cycling day on the edge of the former island of Wieringen. In Westerland, you pass the St. Nicholas Church, among other landmarks, whose tower dates back to the fifteenth century. Further on, you pass through Hippolytushoef. Here, you can catch a glimpse of the old Hippolytus Church, which is built partly of tuff stone. De Onderneming is a beautiful windmill dating from 1851. Along quiet country lanes, you cycle past meadows, characteristic farmhouses, and high garden walls constructed as property boundaries. Finally, you make a loop around the Amstelmeer and pass a monumental water level gauge house from 1919.
