This lock was built where a channel of mud flats emptied into the Zuiderzee. At that time, the sea dike of the Anna Paulownapolder was located here. Today the lock opens onto the Amstelmeer. According to the memorial stone in the wall, the lock chamber is named after Mr. DJ van Ewijck, the first king's governor in North Holland. The lock was inaugurated in 1846. On 7 July 1846, the new lock was visited by King Willem II. In that year, the management of the lock came into the hands of the Maatschappij tot Impoldering van de Anna Paulownapolder. In 1850 the management was transferred to the polder board. The lock was renovated in 1983 by the Noordhollands Noorderkwartier Water Board, which has been in charge since 1979. An inscription in the wooden lock gates, with the year 2012 shows that the lock gates were renewed in that year.
