Description

There is still so much to discover in our own country! How about Laag-Holland, where you learn more about farmer Paterke's act of beggary while cycling through the authentic Waterland.

Farmer Paterke
The route starts with a cup of coffee on the nice terrace of Twiske Haven. You drive along the edge of the Stooterplas, which offers an equally beautiful view to the north. This is Low Holland, where beautiful villages and old low peat areas such as the Oostzanerveld alternate. Further on you pass the Paterspoel with the Suzanna Sluis, named after farmer Paterke who caused Spanish soldiers to fall off his boat here during the Eighty Years' War!

Monnickendam
You will also pass the atmospheric Monnickendam. Enjoy a break on one of the cozy terraces or visit Museum de Speeltoren. Here you will learn everything about the history and changes of the Waterland landscape. Then you cycle further along the Gouwzee, with a view of the special island of Marken. You drive along the water through the polders to Broek in Waterland, a characteristic village where time seems to have stood still thanks to the many wooden houses.
