Two beautiful old towns in one route! Deventer and Zutphen are a picture. They are connected by the mighty IJssel.
Historical Deventer
The route starts in Deventer, a beautiful gem on the IJssel. The old city centre enjoys a protected cityscape. You will see many monumental buildings that remind you of times gone by. At the tree-lined Brink you will see, among other things, De Waag, a beautiful museum from 1531. At the Grote Kerkhof you will see the old city hall and the Lebuïnus church. Further on, under Gorssel, you will pass the Molen Geertruida Cornelia, a corn mill from 1893.
Hanseatic city Zutphen
You follow the IJssel all the way to Zutphen. Take some time here to enjoy the historical atmosphere: this Hanseatic town has one of the best preserved old city centres in the Netherlands! You cycle back along the IJssel, a mighty river that brought the Hanseatic cities their wealth.
