Waarland is a beautiful West Frisian village near Schagen. In the area you can enjoy a wonderfully peaceful walk through the vast countryside.
Polder mill
The first attraction is the Poldermolen Waarland. This mill dates from the sixteenth century. It was used at the time to drain and reclaim this area of islands, reed marshes and lakes. Apart from the sails, the mill is otherwise authentic. In the countryside you can walk on car-free roads past farms and rows of trees. You look out over vast meadows and straight canals. On the horizon, the treetops sometimes seem to touch the clouds.
Boomerwaal
The Boomervaart was originally created as a chamber after a dike breach. You walk along the water through the small-scale Boomerwaal, a nature reserve with flower-rich reed lands. Plants such as viper's tongue and marshmallow grow here.
Below you will find various suggestions for breaks that you can visit during your route. These are divided into different categories, making it easy for you to choose.
