Market Garden: the liberation of the Veluwezoom

A beautiful route through National Park De Veluwezoom leads you to Dieren, where you will discover monuments that commemorate the liberation of the Veluwe and Operation Market Garden.

Liberation Route
From Holiday Village De Jutberg you can walk straight into the National Park De Veluwezoom, a hilly area with an unprecedented diversity of coniferous and deciduous trees and heath species. This is the habitat of red deer, wild boar, badgers, kingfishers and nightjars, among others. In Dieren, discover one of the listening points of the Liberation Route, L24: Bridge to Freedom. At this location you will learn more about the retreat of the Germans from Dieren.

MarketGarden
During Operation Market Garden, one of the largest airborne operations in history took place here in this region. Nearby you will discover the Monument Noodbrug in Dieren, at the lock in the Apeldoorn canal. In the spring of 1945, the inhabitants of Dieren and Spankeren built an emergency bridge over the lock here, so that Canadian and British troops could come into contact with each other. Back at Vakantiedorp de Jutberg, you can enjoy the walk with a tasty snack in the Eeterij.
