Enjoy a breath of fresh air in the flat lands of the Eilandspolder and World Heritage Beemster. A beautiful, typical Dutch route with all those windmills along the way! From the path along the Beemsterringvaart you have a beautiful view of the Beemsterpolder, the polder that was drained by hydraulic engineer Jan Adriaanszoon Leeghwater. The landscape here is veined with ditches, canals and channels to regulate the water level. Not only the polder, but also the Beemster villages breathe history. Such as Middenbeemster, the oldest village in this polder. Thanks to the many monumental buildings, Middenbeemster enjoys a protected village view. Along the Noordhollandsch Kanaal you pass two forts from the Defense Line of Amsterdam. Further on you pass through the picturesque towns of De Rijp, Graf and Grootschermer. On the right is the ancient Eilandspolder.
