Aalten, Gelderland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 747871
Provided by: Erfgoed Gelderland
The route continues through the border region between Aalten and Dinxperlo. This region was part of the Bredevoort estate for a long time. There has been a lot of fighting for that glory over the centuries. First between the counts of Gelre and the bishop of Münster and then during the Eighty Years' War between the Spanish and Dutch troops. During the Batavian-French period (1795-1813) the manor was divided into Aalten, Bredevoort, Dinxperlo and Winterswijk.
