Hattem, Gelderland, The Netherlands
Cycling route: 747861
Provided by: Erfgoed Gelderland
The route starts in picturesque Hattem, the northernmost IJssel town in Gelderland. The route leads via the Hoenwaard floodplain, which is partly flooded during the bird breeding period, to the Apeldoorns Canal. This canal runs from south to north across the Veluwe. In the nineteenth century, King William I took the initiative for its construction. He hoped to give a boost to activity in the Veluwe. Just north of Wapenveld the route bends to the east to further follow the course of the IJssel.
