Description
It is time for the last part of the Zuiderzee route . This seventh stage takes you from Purmerend to Enkhuizen. Enjoy this last trip along the shore of the IJsselmeer and admire all the gems you encounter along the way.
The Defense Line of Amsterdam
Get on your bike in Purmerend and set course for Edam. At the start of the route you will immediately pass two sights: the Edam Town Hall from 1737 and the Fort near Edam. The fort is the most northeastern point of the Defense Line of Amsterdam. This structure was built between 1908 and 1913 and is regularly open to visitors. From here you cycle along the water and through various small towns to Hoorn, Broekhaven, Bovenkarspel and Enkhuizen.
On to the end point
Take some time along the way to look at two windmills and other historic sights such as the Koepoort and Waterpoort de Oude Gouwsboom in Enkhuizen. The end point of this tour is at the Zuiderzee Museum in Enkhuizen, where you also started the Zuiderzee route. Give yourself a pat on the back when you've completed the entire route. You deserved that!
Historic Enkhuizen
In Enkhuizen you will find all kinds of remains from the time of the VOC. Especially the harbor and the buildings in this area are worth seeing, but the historic center of the city is also worth a visit. So don't forget to take a detour through Enkhuizen to view all that beauty. This way you imagine yourself in times long gone.
