There is still wonderful peace and quiet in the Gelderse Vallei. You cycle a few kilometers along the Grebbelinie. You will also find plenty of sights there, such as in the beautiful village of Scherpenzeel and in the city center of Amersfoort.
Grebbe line
The route starts at Lunch and Coffee Room Het Lokaal. You drive through the old city center of Amersfoort before you reach the Valleikanaal. Here lies the Grebbe Line, a unique piece of Dutch cultural history. You will see some monumental casemates there. You can also enjoy the peace and quiet and vast grasslands. Scherpenzeel is a picturesque village that was once located at a strategic point on the border of Gelre and Utrecht. Here you will see, among other things, the monumental Antonius, the village church from 1300.
Olden Florus
In the Gelderse Vallei you pass beautiful old farms, such as the hallenhuis farms in Walderveen. Further on you will see Den Olden Florus, one of the oldest existing post mills in the Netherlands. East of Amersfoort you drive past the rugged Bloeidaal nature reserve. This is how the entire Gelderse Vallei once looked.
