Description
In the Noordoostpolder you will find a fascinating mix of old and new land. In the wide polders it is wonderfully quiet cycling on reclaimed land. But there are also pieces of old land: such as Urk and Schokland.
Enserkerk
Here you can see the Enserkerk, one of the oldest buildings in the Noordoostpolder. The church dates from 1834 and replaced a wooden predecessor from 1717. The former Zuiderzee island was evacuated in 1859 by order of King Willem III. The inhabitants lived in appalling conditions. Since 1942 it has been surrounded by the Noordoostpolder.
Museum Nagele
Further on you can visit Museum Nagele, it is dedicated to architecture. A little later you cycle through Urk. The history as an island in the Zuiderzee lives on in the expression'op Urk\\\'. You cycle through the Urkerbos, a varied forest that is particularly rich in mushrooms in autumn. From afar you can already see Poldertoren from 1959 in Emmeloord. With its 65.30 meters, this is one of the highest water towers in the Netherlands.
