Bulb area
The route starts in Anna Paulowna, a village that, like the surrounding polders, is named after the wife of King Willem II, the Russian Anna Paulowna. It was the last polder to be reclaimed in this region: not until 1846. However, no agriculture was possible on the salinized soil, but the soil was suitable for bulb cultivation: the municipality of Anna Paulowna is still the largest contiguous bulb area in the world.
\\\'t Sand
Just outside Gelderse Buurt you can visit Museum Oud Anna Paulowna at set times. Further on you pass through Julianadorp, a village that modified its original name Loopuyt in honor of the birth of Princess Juliana in 1909. You cross the Noordhollandsch Kanaal via one of the five still existing raft bridges.
