Description
The IJssel near Animals has two very different faces. On the one hand, the river has pushed up the land, on the other hand it is low and you see numerous places where the water penetrates the land.
Ancient hamlet
From Dieren you immediately cross the IJssel with a ferry. In the hamlet of Rha - a town that is more than 1000 years old - you pass De Hoop, a corn mill from 1879. Back in Dieren you walk a little later at the same height on the other side of the river. You will pass one of the listening points of the Liberation Route, L24: Bridge to Freedom. At this listening point you will learn more about the retreat of the Germans from Dieren.
Steam train
In Dieren you will pass the railway station, where the steam locomotives and classic carriages of the VSM, or Veluwsche Stoomtrein Maatschappij, also depart. These historic trains take a ride on the old Koningslijn to Apeldoorn. Nice to combine with this walk!
