Pearls of nature and silence around Arendonk

The walk combines several shorter walks so that you can immerse yourself in the peace and quiet of Arendonk in Kempen for a full day. This municipality is bisected from east to west by the Wamp, a small river that originates in the Goorke, Reusels- and Postelsmoer swamps. In the bosom of the Wamp, several beautiful nature reserves were formed, with peat bogs, heathlands and reedlands.

A pearl necklace of nature

Hoge Vijvers Domain Forest, Rode Del, Het Goorken, Belevensche Heide and Lokkerse Dammen: no shortage of nature reserves during this walk! You may not find any ponds in the Hoge Vijvers Domain Forest, in the north of Arendonk, but with a bit of luck you will spot a hunting tree falcon or a whistling yellowhammer in the coniferous forests or above the fields and heathland. You have a better chance of admiring a nightjar if you camp adventurously in the bivouac zone.

Up the dike

You can connect the swamp areas in the south and the forests of the north while walking on the towpath of the Turnhout-Dessel-Schoten Canal. You can interrupt this long journey for a drink or even an overnight stay at the pancake inn De Hollanderhoeve.
