Description

Sea, dunes, and bulb fields: in North Holland, you can fully enjoy the beautiful and diverse landscape. There's also plenty of cultural history to experience; in Schagen, for example, you can spot many sights.

Hondsbossche Sea Defence
The route starts at De Bokkesprong, home of Hans and Stacey. Enjoy a drink at a terrace before hopping on your bike and riding to the Hondsbossche Seawall. Further on lies Petten, a village that was rebuilt for the fourth (!) time after World War II. The first two destructions (in 1421 and 1625) were caused by the sea. The third by the Germans: Petten had to make way for the Atlantic Wall in 1943. The Pettemerduinen dunes offer a pleasant, sheltered cycling experience.

Beautiful Schagen
In Callantsoog, once an island, you can visit the Reformed Church from 1580. What a sight! In 't Zand, you can cycle across one of the five remaining pontoon bridges in the Netherlands. In the heart of Schagen, you can admire several beautiful 17th-century buildings. You'll also see the striking neo-Gothic Christoforus Church from 1883. The towers of Schagen Castle date back to the Middle Ages. Cycle back to De Bokkesprong through the expansive old polders.
