Description
A beautiful area with nice villages is one thing, but it only really comes to life when you get to know the stories behind it. Such as Bosschenhoofd and Zegge, two West Brabant villages.
Lady Chapel
This route starts in Zegge. The name comes from a low-lying meadow that was often flooded, where many sedges are found: a type of reed grass. The Holy Mary's Message Church from 1912 is a beautiful picture with the accompanying parsonage. On the other side you will see a chapel, which was built ten years later. A Lady Chapel is said to have been built on this site after the St. Elisabeth Flood of 1421, as a gesture of gratitude by a skipper who had survived.
Stop Seppe
Rural paths and roads lead you through the meadows to Bosschenhoofd. Here you can enjoy a beer on the terrace of Café Eeterij Stroop. Would you rather have a bite to eat? That is also possible in this old inn. Bosschenhoofd is popularly called Seppe, after the old inn of Jacobus Sep, born in 1815. Railway workers spent the night here at that time, which is why the railway company called the stopping point Stopplaats Seppe. And it stuck!
