Description
Brasschaat, Belgium, is known for its many beautiful parks and nature reserves. There are also impressive villas and castles. A good reason to jump on your bike and discover Brasschaat at its best.
The Interpreter
The route starts on the edge of De Inslag, a varied forest that once formed an estate. You can still see this in the beautiful old beech avenues. It's so wonderful to cycle here! Further on you pass through De Uitlegger, a vast park with many canals and ponds lined with rhododendrons. In the green Kapellenbos district you will pass many stately buildings, including villas from the Art Nouveau period.
Park Brasschaat
Park Brasschaat originated in the eighteenth century. You cycle between many types of deciduous trees, some of which have been here for 150 years or even longer. In this beautiful park you can go to Brasserie Hemelhof for a drink and a delicious snack. There is also a castle from 1872. The last kilometers you drive through De Inslag again. As before on the route, you also cross the Antitankgracht here, which was dug between 1937 and 1939 for the defense of Antwerp.
Height Profile
The Noordertuin of Antwerp is a beautiful green area to the north of Antwerp. Get on your bike or put on your walking shoes and hit the road in this area to completely unwind a stone's throw from the busy city. Hidden among the greenery are special forts from the First World War and you will find many more beautiful things here.
