Description
Oegstgeest is a picturesque village on the outskirts of Leiden. This walk takes you along some beautiful historical sights.
Old Poelgeest
There are some beautiful buildings on this estate, such as a country house from 1640. Further on you walk along the Polders Poelgeest. You will find an environment here that can also be seen in paintings by Rembrandt. The Klaas Hennepoel is a polder mill from 1787.
Leiden Wood
A little later you will also pass the Oudenhofmolen, a polder mill from 1783. Further on you walk through the Bos van Wijckerslooth. This green oasis was built around 1810 in the English landscape style, there are still a few centuries-old oaks and beeches. On the grounds of the former psychiatric clinic Rhijngeest you can see several stately monumental buildings, such as a villa and the main building. The route ends in Leidse Hout, a city park that was created as a job creation project in the 1930s.
