Oegstgeest is a picturesque village on the edge of Leiden. This walk takes you along some beautiful historical sights.
Old Poelgeest
On this estate are some beautiful buildings, such as a country house from 1640. Further on you walk along the Polders Poelgeest. Here you will find an environment like that seen in paintings by Rembrandt. The Klaas Hennepoel is a polder mill from 1787.
Leiden Wood
You will also pass the Oudenhofmolen, a polder mill from 1783, a little later. Further on you will walk through the Bos van Wijckerslooth. This green oasis was built around 1810 in the English landscape style, there are still some centuries-old oaks and beeches. On the grounds of the former psychiatric clinic Rhijngeest you will see some stately monumental buildings, such as a villa and the main building. The route ends in Leidse Hout, a city park that was built as a job creation project in the thirties.
