From Zevenbergen you drive straight into the vast Brabant sea clay polders. In addition to wide views, you will also find several old forts here. A gem on your route is the fortress of Willemstad.
Beautiful Zevenbergen
You cycle along the harbour, which was filled in around 1970. Just past junction 34 you see some sixteenth-century defences on the edge of Klundert. They were part of the Defence Line of the Hollands Diep. Noordschans is named after the former Fort Hollandia, which was lost in a flood in 1682.
Fort Hell
Fort Bovensluis dates from 1862. In the beautifully preserved fortress of Willemstad you can easily taste the history. What a nice atmosphere! Further on lies Fort de Hel, which was built by the French in 1811. In the polder you pass Oude Molen, a corn mill from 1845. Just past Standdaarbuiten you cycle for a while along the dike along the Markvallei. How nice and quiet it is here!
