From Zevenbergen you can drive straight into the vast Brabant sea clay polders. In addition to panoramic views, you will also find some old fortresses here. Gem on your route is the Willemstad fortress.
You will cycle along the harbour, which was filled in around 1970. Just past junction 34 you can see some sixteenth-century defenses on the edge of Klundert. They were part of the Defense Line of the Hollands Diep. Noordschans is named after the former Fort Hollandia that was lost in a flood in 1682.
Fortress de Hel
Fort Bovensluis dates from 1862. You can easily taste the history in the beautifully preserved fortress of Willemstad. What a nice atmosphere! Further on is Fort de Hel that was built by the French in 1811. In the polder you pass Oude Molen, a corn mill from 1845. Just past Standdaarbuiten you cycle for a while on the dike along the Markvallei. How nice and quiet it is here!
