A day of walking through the Jekerkwartier and the Jekerdal feels like a trip abroad. How beautiful and characteristic it is here. You will also pass the viewing platform at the ENCI quarry.
The route starts at Eetcafé Bijzonder, a cozy café right at the foot of the Pietersberg. Before you leave, you can already drink and eat something here. Then you walk through the Stadspark into the Jekerkwartier. Because of the many old buildings and the remains of the city wall, you can experience a wonderfully characteristic historical atmosphere here. Like at the beautiful Helppoort. You will also pass the Bisschopsmolen, an originally medieval water mill.
You walk back to Eetcafé Bijzonder via the Stadspark. Time for a pit stop. You then walk through the former village of Sint Pieter, where you will see the old village church. Huis de Torentjes is a partly sixteenth-century country house that is inhabited by a well-known violinist. Further on you pass a viewing platform completed in 2015 that gives you a spectacular view over the ENCI quarry. Then you walk into the idyllic Jekerdal with its vineyards. It looks like France here...
