Description

The area through which you cycle is sometimes called the'Kempense Lake District\\\' and that is not for nothing. Years of sand extraction have turned this region into a patchwork of ponds. So much sand was removed here from the nineteenth century, because the quartz sand from Mol turned out to be of exceptional quality.

A trip along the ponds
Some ponds in this region grew into recreational domains and others into beautiful nature reserves. Discover it all from your bike. In Dessel you cycle along a junction of canals and you can climb the Sas4 tower along the way to enjoy a breathtaking view of the Kempense Lakes. Another eye-catcher on this cycle route is the Provincial Groendomein Prinsenpark south of Retie. The former royal domain consists of coniferous and deciduous trees and several ponds. Take a trip through the quiet nature and relax completely.

Watermill Retie
You will also cycle past the Watermill Retie. The installation of this water mill is still completely intact. The mill is an undershot water mill that does well on the slow-flowing waterways in the Kempen. At the end of the route you will end up in the center of Retie again, where you can relax at a restaurant to recover from the day.

A trip to your taste
This route is suitable for everyone. Go carefree with your hand bike, cargo bike or bicycle trailer on this barrier-free route along the various attractions. You can also supplement your bike ride here with adventures such as a day of diving in the Zilvermeer (also for wheelchair users!) or a visit to the Jacob Smits Museum. There is plenty to do in this area.
