Cape Forests walking route

Just outside Doorn, you'll take a walk through the Kaapse Bossen forests, located in the heart of the Utrechtse Heuvelrug National Park. In this rolling woodland, you'll stroll along beech avenues and winding paths. A wonderful area to relax and unwind. You'll pass De Kaap, a 26-meter-high observation tower. From the top, you'll enjoy magnificent views. In clear weather, you can even see Utrecht Cathedral! Around junction 87, you'll see several sweet chestnut trees. They were planted for their quality timber, scenic beauty, and edible chestnuts. Further on, you'll see forest banks dating from the early 19th century. These were intended to protect young trees from sheep grazing on the nearby heathland. Back in Doorn, you'll pass St. Martin's Church, dating from 1180. The route ends at Bloem Doorn.
