Description
Admire castles
This route starts at the edge of the Wijnendalebos. This 180 hectare area consists of contiguous forests and you will also find Wijnendale castle. A moated castle was built on this site in the 15th century. The current castle was largely built in the 19th century. One of the wings of the castle is accessible to the public. From here you cycle to Ichtegem and on to Wijnendale. Just outside Wijnendale you can take a look at Castle d\\\'Aertrycke and Provinciedomein d\\\'Aertrycke. The castle in this beautiful castle park was built between 1868 and 1871. Then you cycle on to Zedelgem and Ter Loo Castle. Around this castle you will find the Kasteelpark ter Loo.
Torhout
Then you set course for Torhout. This city is considered the capital of the Houtland and it is located on the edge of the Wijnendale plateau. From Torhout you cycle back to the starting point of the route.
Ravenhof Castle
In the center of Torhout you can also visit Ravenhof Castle. This castle is surrounded by a green castle park. The current castle was probably built on the foundations of a structure that stood here between the 13th and 15th centuries. Over the centuries, the castle has been rebuilt and restored several times. In the castle you will find a museum for Torhout Pottery where you can take a look.
