Description

The Weser-Harz-Heide-Radfernweg runs from Lüneburg all the way to the point where the Werra and Fulda meet in Hannoversch Münden. You mainly cycle on quiet roads and forest paths through varied landscapes, but you also get to know cozy cities. Sporty cyclists can indulge themselves on steep slopes and steep descents between Weser and Göttingen and in the Harz.

From the Lunebürger Heide to the Harz
The starting point of this route is in Lüneberg. From here you set course for Gifhorn through the Lunebürger Heide nature reserve. This heathland once consisted of enormous heaths of about 7000 km2. The few heaths that have remained now cover about 100 km2 and they are spread over the nature reserve. Furthermore, the area mainly consists of forests, fields and meadows. A little further on you cycle through the rolling hills of the Harz. After more than 200 kilometers of cycling you arrive at the Altstadt Goslar. The Rammelsberg mines in this town and the historic center of Goslar are on the UNESCO World Heritage List.

University town of Göttingen
From Goslar you cycle via Osterode and the university town of Göttingen to the end of the route in Hannoversch Münden. In Göttingen you will find numerous historic buildings that date from the time when the city was still a Hanseatic city.

Castle splendor
On this route you will pass no less than two castles: the residence castle of Braunschweig and the residence castle of Wolfenbüttel. Braunschweig Palace was built between 1833 and 1841. The accompanying park is laid out in the style of a classic English landscape garden. Wolfenbüttel Castle is the second largest structure of its kind. This castle served as a residence for the dukes of Braunschweig-Lüneberg for 400 years.
