Walking along the Oisterwijk Fens

Your route starts at Boshuis Venkraai. It is almost impossible to imagine, but the Oisterwijk Forests and Fens were once a vast heathland. On the edge of the forest, you see meadows, fields, and beautiful country houses. At junction 2, you pass Zandstraat 5, an authentic smallholding from the early nineteenth century. This beautiful building is listed in the top 100 of national monuments. Shortly afterwards, you dive into the woods and enjoy the tranquility at the Brandven. Things used to be quite different: the water from this fen was used to extinguish fires. The Kolkven is the largest fen in the Oisterwijk forests. This fen was not blown out by polar winds, but carved out by the churning water of an old meltwater river.
