Walking along the Oisterwijkse Vennen

It is almost impossible to imagine, but the Oisterwijk Forests and Fens were once a vast heathland area. Now you can enjoy a peaceful walk between the Scots pines from Natuurpoort Klein Oisterwijk.

Authentic small farm
The first kilometers you walk along the edge of the forest. On your left you will see meadows, fields and beautiful country houses. At junction 2 you pass Zandstraat 5, an authentic small farmhouse from the early nineteenth century. The beautiful building is in the top 100 of National Monuments! A little later you dive into the woods and take a leisurely walk along the Brandven. That used to be different: the water from this fen was used to extinguish fires.

Kolkven
You will also pass the Kolkven, the largest fen in the Oisterwijk forests. This fen was not blown out by polar winds, but was carved out by the swirling water of an old meltwater river. The Kolkven is therefore deeper than the other fens. Grab a bench and enjoy the silence and the mysterious view. On the rugged banks you can smell the fragrant gale and admire fairytale water lilies in season. At Natuurpoort Klein Oisterwijk you can enjoy a drink at your leisure.
