The Ammerland route is the jewel among the cycling routes in the Ammerland. This route takes you from Bad Zwischenahn through extensive peat bogs and along natural lakes. Along the way you can enjoy the typical Ammerland landscape with lots of water, rhododendrons, hedgerows, brick churches, historic mills and ancient farms.
Park landscape Ammerland
Get on your bike in Bad Zwischenahn and head for Edewecht, Augustfehn and Westerstede. You can enjoy the Ammerland Park Landscape around Westerstede. This landscape is bursting with beautiful gardens and parks full of trees, plants and flowers. You will naturally flourish there. Be sure to take a look at one of the many garden complexes in this area and get to know the beauty of traditional and modern horticulture. How about the Gartenkulturzentrum, for example, where you can see the different eras of garden culture with your own eyes in beautiful themed gardens.
Lake Zwischenahner
You then cycle on to Wiefelstede, Rastede and Bad Zwischenahn. You cycle along the Zwischenahner lake. This lake is the third largest inland waterway in Lower Saxony with an area of 550 hectares. This lake is especially popular among water sports enthusiasts such as sailors and windsurfers, but you can also enjoy swimming or boating in the summer.
Sightseeing in Bad Zwischenahn
In Bad Zwischenahn, the starting and finishing point of this route, you can take a look at the historic houses and buildings of the Ammerländer Bauernhaus or admire the most beautiful themed gardens in the Park der Gärten. You will find no less than 90 gardens here that you can stroll through and where you can marvel at beautiful examples of horticultural art.
