Description

De Haar Castle is a wonderful base for your route. The fourteenth century castle was rebuilt in 1892 in neo-Gothic style. Near Harmelen you cycle through orchards and past the fairytale Vijverbos. The Woerdense Verlaat neighborhood was built near the lock in the Grecht, which was built in 1448. Here you see the Westveense Mill, a polder mill from 1676. Stop at Eet-en Drinkcafé De Gkeerde Kanis! The old mining village of Kockengen takes its name from Cocagne, the French name for Luilekkerland. Around the village you see characteristic narrow plots: a subdivision pattern whose origins date back to the thirteenth century. Here you have beautiful views over the vast polder. The Kockengense Mill dates from 1675. It drained the Kockengense polder until the 1960s.
