Description

Kasteel de Haar is a wonderful base for your route. The fourteenth-century castle was rebuilt in 1892 in neo-Gothic style. Near Harmelen, you cycle through orchards and along the fairytale Vijverbos. The hamlet of Woerdense Verlaat was built near the lock in the Grecht that was built in 1448. Here you can see the Westveense Molen, a polder mill from 1676. Take a break at Eet-en Drinkcafé De Gekeerde Kanis! The old reclamation village of Kockengen takes its name from Cocagne, the French name for Cockaigne. Around the village you can see characteristic narrow plots: a parceling pattern that originated in the thirteenth century. You have beautiful views over the vast polder here. The Kockengense Molen dates from 1675. Until the sixties it drained the Kockengense polder.
