Description
Wieringen is full of cultural history. The former island was only connected to North Holland in 1924 and has therefore developed and preserved its own character for centuries. Just after boarding, you pass the Historische Hoek in the harbor of Den Oever. Here lie floating jetties specifically intended for sailing fishing vessels designated as maritime monuments. At junction 32, you can disembark briefly to take a look at the centuries-old Wierdijk. In Westerland and Hippolytushoef, you pass beautiful old village churches. You also pass windmill De Onderneming and the reconstruction of a Pagan Chapel. At the Jan Lont Island Museum, you can learn more about the unique history of this chapel.
