Description
In the Kop van Noord-Holland you can completely surround yourself with a typical Dutch landscape. You will find vast polders as far as the eye can see with a windmill here and there, but also the coast of the Wadden Sea. Relax in the polders on this route and then get a breath of fresh air at the sometimes turbulent Wadden Sea.
Cycling across the Wieringermeerpolder
The first part of this route runs along the Amstelmeer. Originally this lake formed the transition between the Waddenzee and the Zuiderzee, but nowadays the lake is closed on one side by the Amsteldiepdijk and on the other side it is bordered by the Wieringermeerpolder. The lake is especially popular among windsurfers. Along this lake you set course to the many small towns on the Wieringermeerpolder. You will cycle through Den Oever, a village located at the beginning of the Afsluitdijk. In the summer months you can walk the mudflats from here with a guide.

Van Ewijck lock
Van Ewijcksluis is a small village on the Anna Paulownapolder. This village originated at the sluice between the Lage Oude Veer and the former Amsteldiep. Nowadays you will find several locks and a pumping station here. Furthermore, the village has its own harbor that used to be used as a boarding point to sail to the former island of Wieringen. Nowadays, the area around Wieringen has been reclaimed, so this is no longer necessary.
