Around Zottegem you can enjoy a rolling landscape with beautiful views. You will also pass through picturesque villages, such as Elene.
Egmontstad
In Herzele you will pass an impressive castle ruin. The origins of this moated castle date back to the seventh century. It was destroyed in 1381 by the Count of Flanders. On the edge of Zottegem you pass the Domain Breivelde. The romantic-looking city park contains dozens of water features and many native and exotic tree species. In the city itself, two statues, a castle and a dozen signs remind you of the unfortunate sixteenth-century Count Lamoraal van Egmont.
Cotthembos
In the countryside you will experience the typical peace and conviviality of the Flemish countryside. You drive through a landscape of stream valleys, fields and meadows and small forests. You also drive through the Cotthembos. Here you will find a mix of oak, hornbeam and alder. The forest is intersected by the Cotthembeek. In Sint-Lievens-Houtem you will come across the second largest market in Flanders. Here you will see, among other things, St. Michael's Church, which originally dates from the Middle Ages.
