This stage of the Pieterpad takes you through a wooded area and along the banks of the Rhine. Along the way you will discover various historical places, each with their own story and you will also cross the Rhine with a ferry. Get on the road quickly and admire all the beauty in this area.
Walking through the Bergherbos
Braamt is the starting point of this walk. From here you walk to the Bergherbos, an 1837-hectare nature reserve on moraines that continues across the German border. From the higher places in this area you can enjoy a beautiful panoramic view. You walk a bit through Germany in the vicinity of the Eltenerberg, a mountain of over 83 meters. You then walk back across the border to the Netherlands in the direction of Spijk and Tolkamer. On the last part of the route you board a ferry to cross the Rhine to Millingen aan de Rijn.
Millingen on the Rhine
In Millingen aan de Rijn, the end point of this route, you will find, among other things, a listening point of the Liberation Route. Here you can learn more about the evacuation of the village on October 18, 1944 during World War II. You can also view a replica of a Roman patrol ship a little further on.
