The people of Milling cannot imagine that they might also have to evacuate. The villagers are therefore completely unprepared when the German evacuation order is issued on October 18, 1944 and everyone has to pack their belongings and leave home and hearth within 24 hours. Where can they go and who takes care of the livestock? How long will they be gone?
