Walking through the woods around Nijmegen

The starting point of this route is a bit north of the town of Molenhoek. From here you walk in the direction of Nijmegen through Heumensoord, a beautiful area full of coniferous and deciduous forests, grasslands and heaths. In the middle of this area you will find the remains of a Roman guard post from the 3rd century. You used to find a chain of guard posts on the border of the Roman Empire. These posts were used to relay messages using torches and flags. In this way the posts fulfilled an important function in the defense of the Roman Empire. You then walk past the Heilig Landstichting to Groesbeek. From Groesbeek you cross the Groesbeek forests on your way to Molenhoek.

Between the Heilig Landstichting and Groesbeek you will find the Africa Museum. Visit this museum if you want to learn more about African culture.
