Description

Today you'll cycle a route steeped in cultural history. This begins shortly after boarding the bike, as you enter Bunschoten-Spakenburg. You'll pass, among other things, the historic harbor of Spakenburg. Just outside the village, you'll see on your right a reconstruction of a so-called palendijk (pale dike): a water defense system used between the fifteenth and eighteenth centuries at the Zuiderzee. Through the expansive Eem Valley, you'll cycle to Baarn, a town dotted with stately old buildings. At the Brink, you'll pass St. Paul's Church, dating back to 1385. On the edge of Baarn, you'll pass the Waterloo Needle, a monument dating from 1820. In neighboring Soest, you'll also pass one monumental building after another. It's a lovely cycle through the polder to the charming terrace of De Eemlandhoeve.
