Walking through the Zwanburgerpolder

From the town of Warmond on the mainland you can easily walk to Koudenhoorn over a bridge. You will find all kinds of birds here. Drink a cup of coffee at Brasserie Coazy and then (from March to October) take the saloon boat De Heere Schouten across to the Zwanburgerpolder. In the spring, all kinds of birds breed in the low-lying meadows on this island. On the Zwanburgerpolder you will find the Zwanburgermolen from the 19th century. There was not always an island in De Zwanburgerpolder. It used to form the edge of the Dutch peat area, but that changed when sand was extracted. Then you can take the saloon boat to Tengnagel, a narrow spit of land between the river Zijl and't Joppe. You walk back to the mainland over the bridge of De Strengen.
