Walking through the Zwanburgerpolder

From the town of Warmond on the mainland, you can easily walk to Koudenhoorn over a bridge. You'll find all sorts of birds here. Enjoy a cup of coffee at Brasserie Coazy and then (from March to October) take the saloon boat De Heere Schouten across to the Zwanburgerpolder. In the low-lying meadows on this island, all sorts of birds breed in the spring. On the Zwanburgerpolder, you'll find the 19th-century Zwanburgermolen. The Zwanburgerpolder wasn't always an island. It used to form the edge of the Dutch peatlands, but that changed when sand was extracted. Then you can take the saloon boat to Tengnagel, a narrow spit of land between the Zijl River and 't Joppe. Cross the bridge at De Strengen to return to the mainland.
