Walking around the Twentse Lonneker

The versatility of Twente continues to amaze you. You can also walk around Lonneker through a wonderfully quiet landscape where bushes, streams and hay and grasslands alternate.

Old coach house
At the intersection of Braakweg and Zuidkamp you will pass two monumental buildings. At number 140 you can see the oldest building: a coach house from 1884. This was built on behalf of Tattersall & Holdsworth Machinefabrieken en Magazijnen de Globe. Farm De Braak is located across the road. This originally simple farm got its current appearance in 1938. The architect was commissioned by the same company that had built the coach house.

Lonneker mill
You can relax once again in the landscape of Twente. You walk past the Lonnekermolen from 1851. During the Second World War, this mill played a more important role. During that period, the miller illegally made large quantities of flour with which many families were kept alive. From the terrace of Sprakel eat & drink you have a beautiful view of the nostalgic village square. You can enjoy a drink and a snack.

South Camp camp
West of Lonneker you walk around the former military base of Zuidkamp, which was built by the Luftwaffe in World War II. From the air, Zuidkamp 'just' seemed to be part of the Twente landscape. From the ground, however, you can see that the buildings do not look typically Twente, but are designed according to National Socialist principles. Would you like to admire Twente from the saddle?
