Nature cycle route from Spaarndam

From the parking lot you quickly cycle into the Westhoffbos. This nature reserve was created in the 1970s and has a surprising amount of variation. Further on you cross the canal and drive through Spaarnwoude: an extensive nature and recreation area with forest, meadows and water. Velsen-Zuid is the original core of the village of Velsen, which was split in two in the nineteenth century by the construction of the North Sea Canal. The picturesque area around the twelfth-century Engelmunduskerk enjoys a protected village view. Just outside the village you drive through Buitenplaats Velserbeek, a little later you cycle through National Park Zuid-Kennemerland. At Brasserie de Boemel it's time for a stopover before you continue to the lake Mooi Nel. You drive back to the starting point through the polders and via Spaarnwoude.
