Buitenplaats Velserbeek

Buitenplaats Velserbeek was in 1639 a 'Herenhofstede' and owned by the Amsterdam merchant Jeremia van Collen. The park was laid out in the French style 'Le Notre'. At the beginning of the 19th century, a shell house was built where tea could be drunk, a Jenever house for gin lovers, a Hermitage and an orangery was built. In 1844 a major renovation took place and the French style was exchanged for an English landscape style. Rare tree species were planted by the Van Tuyll van Sooskerken family, the owners at that time. The municipality of Velsen bought the park in 1925 and changes were made again. A deer park, bandstand, aviary, playground and petting zoo provided even more entertainment in the park.
