The Roerdalen region is a great place to cycle. You will find beautiful nature reserves and towns with a rich cultural history here. In Susteren you will pass the Sint-Amelbergabasiliek, which originally dates from the eleventh century. A little later you will cycle through't Hout, a deciduous forest with poplars, summer oaks and ash trees. Just before Montfort you will cycle past the Reigersbroek, an old marsh and peat area. Further on you will see the ruins of Kasteel Montfort on your left, a castle originally built in the thirteenth century and commissioned by Hendrik III van Gelre. On the terrace of Cafe biej de Vogel you can enjoy a delicious meal, after which you can admire the beautiful beech trees in the Munnichsbos. At the end of your route there are two more nature reserves on your route: the Annendaalsbos and the IJzerenbosch.
