Cycling past farms in the Krimpenerwaard

The Krimpenerwaard region is full of charming farmhouses. Hop on your bike and discover the difference between traditional farmhouses, T-shaped farmhouses, and L-shaped farmhouses. Water attic

The ribbon development along the road is easily explained: the Krimpenerwaard swamp forest was reclaimed from this road. Farmers then built their farmhouses at the ends of the new plots. Some buildings, such as the barn behind Benedenberg 81, still have a water loft where livestock were brought to safety in the event of a flood.

Meadow birds

Due to the wetlands, only livestock farming was possible in the center of the Waard. Now, the pastures on both sides of the N207 – Kadijk-West and Kadijk-Oost – are managed by the Zuid-Hollands Landschap (South Holland Landscape). By cleverly managing mowing, fertilizing, and grazing, meadow birds have every opportunity to thrive here.
